SCHEDULE

MEMBERSHIP MEETING

The Annual Membership Meeting will take place from 9AM to 9:30 AM. This is an opportunity for a collegial discussion of programs and activities of the Society. APS officers will give their reports and lead discussion of topics members wish to address concerning the goals and purposes of the society. Please consider attending this important part of the program. Continental breakfast will be served.

The Scholars Symposium, an important tradition with the Society for many years, is an opportunity for members to present an original paper on a topic related to psychoanalysis and to have other members of the community serve as discussants.  This year, Larry Josephs, Ph.D., former graduate of UT Clinical Psychology Program, will present a paper.

SYMPOSIUM DESCRIPTION

Dr. Sherwood begins with the question: Does the patient actually have a past? From a phenomenological viewpoint, the past can never be teased out as an independent variable and may even be less important than the future. Engaging Freud's notion of transference through the work of Husserl and Merleau-Ponty, Dr. Sherwood will assert that transference can only refer to the therapy situation, which is the only place the patient and therapist exist anyway. Bill MacGillivray and Jack Barlow will serve as discussants. Additional information will be posted when available.
