SEMINAR DESCRIPTION |
|
Dr. LaMothe's aim is to uniquely describe the dynamics involved in interpersonal encounters. He argues that an interpersonal encounter is a mutual, interdependent engagement of persons that gives rise to experiences if being alive and real. These encounters are co-created and manifest an absence of transference and countertransference dynamics. That is, they are, in the worlds of Harry Guntrip, REAL meetings and it is the presence of interpersonal encounters that signal the beginning of the end of the analytic relationship, as well as the ushering in of genuine grief between therapist and patient.
Dr. LaMothe uses an amended version of Winnicott's notions of potential space and false self to elaborate on the fourfold dynamics of interpersonal encounters. His compelling categories are as follows:
surrender-generation
recognition-negation
care-quiescence
disruption-repair
