Presents

Polly Young-Eisendrath, PhD

Saturday May 5, 2007

Polly Young-Eisendrath is a psychologist and Jungian psychoanalyst practicing in Burlington, Vermont where she is also Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Vermont Medical College. She has published many books, chapters and articles on psychotherapy, women's development, couples therapy, spirituality, resilience and Jung's psychology. She has been a keynote speaker at the Georgia Psychological Association Annual Conference, the London Society for Analytical Psychology Conference on the Millennium and lectures widely on topics of resilience, women's growth and development, and couple relationship in the context of Buddhism, feminism, and the practice of psychoanalysis. In May 2006, Dr Young-Eisendrath was one of the directors of the Kyoto Conference on Buddhism and Psychotherapy, where she also presented on issues of self in psychoanalysis and Buddhism.

Her APS Conference is yet to be named, but current plans include discussion of:

"A Mindfulness-Based Approach to Transference and Countertransference in Psychoanalytic Treatment"

"Self, Selves and No-Self: So What? A Further Development of the Dialogue Between Buddhism and Psychoanalysis."

Dr Young-Eisendrath last presented to APS in 2002, receiving a very positive reception for her workshop on Lifelong Ambivalence in the Mother-Child Relationship. She is an intellectually engaging presenter who is very informed in psychoanalytic theory, as well as mindfulness and Buddhist philosophy. Comments on her evaluation following the 2002 conference include:

An excellent day all around — she’s remarkably engaging and engagable, as well as deep and broad and brilliant.

Presenter was superb, down to earth, unpretentiously speaking easily about/from her own life.

Outstanding. The “realness” or down-to-earth, personal quality of the presentation made it easy to integrate into my experience.

Perhaps the most engaging APS conference I’ve ever been to — some incredible discussion.
